Patriot Recap - September 12th, 2012

The 2012 Patriot found us all around Southern California playing baseball.  Let’s jump park to park and take a look at all the exciting baseball that took place

Big League Dreams

11-Under:
Redondo Samurai had a great start to the tournament.  Giving up just three runs on Saturday, they went into Sunday as the 1st Seed.  In their Semifinal Game, they found themselves facing the Agoura Aces again.  The Samurai had won their first encounter, but the Agoura Aces were not going to make it easy for the Samurai.  Both teams had hot bats, but the Samurai were able to hold off the surging Aces, 11-8.  On the other side of the playoff brackets, So Cal Quakes were facing Dynasty Baseball for the second time this tournament.  Quakes were able to pull out a 5-4 win on Saturday, and on Sunday the game looked incredibly similar.  Quakes were able to pull off another one run victory to head to the Championship Game against the Samurai.  Quakes took advantage of their momentum and the cooled off bats of the Samurai to take home first place with a 13-4 victory.

12-Under:
OC Swat headed into Sunday as the 3rd Seed.  They upset 2nd Seed Whittier Kaos to head to the Championship Game.  They were unable to keep that momentum alive against the 1st Seed Corona Predators.  Advancing to the Championship Game with a one run semifinal victory, their bats woke up in the Championship, giving them a 14-5 Championship victory.

13-Under:
Rancho Cucamonga Bulldogs entered Sunday’s games undefeated.  That was a fact they intended to keep alive.  A 10-2 Semifinal victory took them to the Championship Game where they would face the So Cal Redwings again.  Saturday’s game ended with a one run victory for the Bulldogs.  Sunday’s game would be another close one, the Bulldogs edging out the Redwings 4-2 for the Championship.

San Clemente
13-Under:
Sunday’s playoffs saw a game between brothers.  The Ruffnecks Black faced the Ruffnecks Red in the first Quarterfinal Game of the day.  Ruffnecks Black defeated their brothers to advance to the Semifinal game to face the 1st Seed from Pool A.  Ruffnecks Black were able to keep their momentum alive and upset the Riverside Royals 7-5 to advance to the Championship Game.  They would have to face 1st Seed from Pool B, Corona Kaos.   Giving up only three runs in their first game, they proved too much for the Ruffnecks, and Kaos took home the Championship trophy.

14-Under:
With two ties in Saturday’s games, no team had two losses after their first two games.  This lead to some very evenly matched playoff games on Sunday.  4th Seed HB Khaos advanced to the Semifinal game with a 7-3 victory.  They would have to face 1st Seed Baseball West Coast, but that thought didn’t scare them.  After a hard fought semifinal game, HB Khaos pulled off the 8-6 upset to advance to the finals.  2nd Seed San Diego Longhorns was making their way through the other side of the bracket.  With a tight 7-6 Quarterfinal win, they cruised through their Semifinal game 10-2 to advance to the finals.  Both teams were on their third game of the day, and the San Diego Longhorns were able to outlast the HB Khaos with a 6-3 win to clinch First Place.

Fountain Valley Sports Park
9-Under:
The 9-Under playoffs proved that nothing is guaranteed in 9-Under baseball.  1st Seed Blyleven’s Animals were in danger of getting upset by the 4th Seed.  Down 10-5 in the bottom of the 6th inning, they would need a miraculous rally to advance to the finals, and that’s just what they did.  Scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the inning, they advanced to the Championship Game with a fire in their step.  2nd Seed So Cal Outlaws had some fire of their own though.  After winning their Semifinal game, they watched Blyleven’s exciting win and were ready to face them in the finals.  The tables were turned in this game though.  The Outlaws found themselves trailing the Animals heading into the end of the game, until a rally of their own put them up 10-9, where they were able to hold on and clinch the upset victory.

10-Under:
1st Seed So Cal Mizuno headed into Sunday with only victory on their minds.  Outscoring their opponents 54-9, they clinched First Place on Sunday with ease.

11-Under:
Los Al Stampede had an exciting Sunday run.  With a close 6-5 Quarterfinal win, they advanced to face the 1st Seed HB Bombers.  They kept the fire alive with a 12-7 win to advance to the finals.  The third game in the day proved to be too much for them though.  3rd OC Hurricanes came into the Championship game well rested, and won 12-3 for clinch First Place.

12-Under:
The SC Tritons came into the weekend with 1st Place in their sights.  Giving up just nine runs through four games, they cruised to a first place trophy.
