California State Championship Recap

12-Under:
Stellar pitching was able to support MVP Black's cold bats on Sunday's playoffs.

Entering Sunday as the 2nd Seed, they fell behind 2-0 after four innings.  After getting on the board in the Bottom of the 2nd with one run, starting pitcher Jason Flores was determined to finish the game on top.  Entering his 5th Inning of work, he shut down the Titans at the plate, keeping MVP in the game.  MVP was finally able to get to the Titan's starting pitcher and take the lead with two runs scored in the Bottom of the 5th.

Flores knew that it was his game to win, and returned to the mound in the Top of the 6th to close the door on the Titans, and send MVP to the Championship Game.

Now facing the 1st Seed Cal Select, MVP would have a chance to for payback.  The Select had bested MVP on Saturday 7-5.  After striking quick for 2 runs in the top of the 1st Inning, MVP gave Justin Verdugo the ball.  After giving up one run in the Bottom of the 1st, Verdugo settled down, and threw four more scoreless innings.

With a 3-1 lead going into the Bottom of the 6th, MVP called on Hector Alameza to close the game.  After giving up one run, making it a 3-2 game, Alameza found his groove, and gave MVP a 3-2 Championship Victory

14-Under:
Both the Tustin Knights and the Saddleback Coyotes were comfortably swinging their bats in Sunday's playoff games.  Scoring a combined 30 runs in their first three games, one would have assumed a high scoring Championship game.  Starting pitchers Jack Sampson for the Knights and Nick Pinto for the Coyotes had different plans however.  Both starting pitchers threw 6 strong innings, with the lone run coming from the Knights in the Top of the 5th.

Taking a 1-0 lead into the Bottom of the 7th, Knight's pitcher Michael Olivares came in with the game on his shoulders and retired the side, giving the Knight's an exciting 1-0 victory.
