Slugger Recap

10-Under:
After a rough start to the 2014 Season, the 10-Under So Cal Outlaws have found their footing, and are quickly rising to the top of the 10-Under division.

The Outlaws haven't lost a game in their last two tournaments, with a record of 8-0-1.  Their road to 1st Place wasn't an easy one though.  Up against the Lethal Venom in Pool Play, they managed to hold on to their winning streak by ending in a 7-7 tie.  The Outlaws edged out the Venom for the 1st Seed in Pool A by just 1 run allowed.

Taking advantage of their bye to the Semifinals, Outlaws pitcher Ty Borgogno, threw 5 Innings of 1 run baseball, moving them on to the Championship.

The So Cal Bombers clinched 1st Seed in Pool B by going 2-0 and giving up just 3 runs in Pool Play.  After scoring 12 runs in their semifinal game, the Bombers looked to break the Outlaws winning streak.  The Outlaws were able to smother the hot bats of the Bombers, holding them to just 4 runs, while putting of 7 of their own.  All the pressure will be on the Outlaws in their next tournament.  Can they keep their streak alive?

11-Under:
Coming up just short in their last tournament, Rampage BBC was motivated to not come up short this weekend.

Going 1-1 into the last game of Pool Play on Sunday, they needed a win while giving up minimal runs in order to advance to the Championship game.  Doing just that, they won 8-0 to advance to the Championship game as the Home Team.

Up against the 2nd Seed Thunder, whom they had shut out 2-0 in Pool Play, Rampage was looking to keep their bats hot and their defense tight.  They did just that, holding the Thunder to just 1 run, and putting up 6 to take the victory and 1st Place.

12-Under:
In what was a very evenly matched division, five out of seven of the 12-Under teams were 1-1 after Pool Play.  GBG Marucci Waves were the 2nd Seed after going 1-1 on Saturday.  They set out to prove that that loss was an accident in Sunday's Playoffs.

Scoring 14 runs in their quarter final playoff game, they easily advanced to the Semifinals.  Bolstered by a stellar pitching performance from Fraser Bohm and Brandon Ochoa, the Waves held their semifinal opponents to just 2 runs, allowing them to advance to the Championship by scoring just 4 runs.

Now on their 3rd game of the day, the Waves didn't slow down, offensively or defensively.  Knocking 10 runs in, they held their opponents to just 2 runs, for a total of just 5 runs given up in Sunday's playoffs games, leading them to a well earned 1st Place finish.

14-Under:
Diamond MVP is regarded as one of the top 13-Under teams in the country.  Playing up in the 14-Under division, MVP quickly showed that they were ready to play with the big boys on a bigger field.  Scoring 23 runs in their first two games while giving up just 2, they advanced to Sunday as the 1st Seed.

Right on their heals however were the So Cal Express.  Outscoring their opponents 20-3 on Saturday, these two teams were destined to meet in the finals.  After both teams won in their Semifinal games, they met in the Championship game.

Pitching and defense was solid on both sides.  Express Pitcher Rhese Gomez kept his composure, throwing 7 strong innings against he hard hitting MVP, and holding them to just 2 runs.  Diamond MVP pitchers threw an impressive game as well, but we unable to keep the older Express off the base paths.  Scoring 3 runs, Express was able to edge out the talented MVP, taking home 1st Place.

Thank you to all the teams that played in our 2014 Slugger.  Here is a list of the Champions and Runner-Ups.

See you on the fields
