Strike Out Hunger Recap - December 15, 2012

Every year, the Strike Out Hunger is our way to give back to the community.  Sometimes we get caught up in the competition of youth baseball, we forget out fortunate we really are to be playing baseball in December while there are families struggling to put food on their tables.  Every year, we are overwhelmed with generosity by our teams with the amount of food that we are able to donate on their behalf.  So thank you for putting ERA and batting averages on the back burner for a moment, and helping make someone's Holidays a little brighter.

12-Under Blue:
Sunday started off exciting for the So Cal Stars.  Coming in as the 4th Seed, they found themselves matched up against OABBC, the team that had handed them their only loss on Saturday.  Not content with repeating the past, the Stars scored 9 runs in an upset that sent them to the Championship game.  3rd Seed Faze managed to hold on to a 7-7 tie on Saturday, giving them the 3rd Seed and a chance to play for the Championship.  The bested the 2nd Seed to advance to the finals, but were unable to stop the surging Stars. The Stars scored 8 more runs, and took home the 1st Place trophy.

13-Under Major:
The Placentia Mustangs Blue played tight defense on Saturday, they just couldn't get their bats fired up.  Going 0-1-1, they entered Sunday as the 5th Seed.  Waking up nice and early for the 8:00 AM quarterfinal game, their bats were right there with them.  Scoring ten runs, they advanced to the Semifinal game to face 1st Seed San Diego Slam.  The Slam had beat the Mustangs Blue on Saturday, but the Mustangs Blue were ready to repeat that.  Putting up another ten runs, they advanced to the Championship game to face none other than their brother's in the Placentia Mustangs.  The Mustangs got some revenge of their own, with a 2-1 win against the team that had beat them on Saturday.  Facing off against each other, the Mustangs were able to quell the Mustangs Blue hot bats, but were unable to get anything of their own going, giving the 5th Seed Mustangs Blue the victory over their training partners.

13-Under AAA:
The 4th Seed Corona Kaos had a wild ride to their Championship.  After winning their quarter final game 3-1, they advanced to the Semifinals against 1st Seed T2 Black.  T2 Black had shut out the Kaos on Saturday, and had only given up one run up until the Semifinal game.  Kaos put on their hitting shoes and were able to get some payback, putting up 12 runs and holding the 1st Seed to only 1 run, they advanced to the Championship game with momentum behind them.  They found themselves battling against the 2nd Seed Bad Company.  Their bats may have cooled down, but their pitching was red hot.  Holding Bad Company to just 2 runs, they scored 3 to clinch the championship.

14-Under Major:
The 14-Under Major saw some familiar names in the Championship Game.  1st Seed Placentia Mustangs found themselves battling 3rd Seed Placentia Mustangs Grey for the Championship.  Both teams were 2-0 heading into the final game of the weekend.  The Placentia Mustangs weren't able to get their bats fired up for Sunday's games, and the Mustangs Grey scored ten runs in their Championship Victory.

13-Under - BLD Perris:
In a series of events very similar to that of 13-Under Corona Kaos, the Cowboys Orange had an exciting Sunday.  Entering Sunday as the 4th Seed, they won their quarter final game.  They would face the 1st Seed ABD Aztecs, who as you may have guessed, beat the Cowboys on Saturday.  The Cowboys coming off their win, were ready to play.  Holding the Aztecs to just 3 runs, the Cowboys won with a 4-3 upset.  Their comeback journey wasn't over just yet.  Facing the 2nd Seed SGV Hustle in the championship game, they had their work cut out for them. Despite being on their third game of the day, they woke their bats up to score 9 runs in the Championship game to take home 1st Place.

Thank you again to all the teams that played last weekend, and donated food to such an awesome cause.  We wish you all very Happy Holidays with your families and friends.
