Oktoberfest Recap - October 9th, 2012

Big League Dreams Riverside
11-Under:
The OC Bandits and Mid Valley Warriors Elite both headed into Sunday with a 2-0 record.  They had both giving up only six runs, and their run differential was only three runs apart.  It’s no surprise that we saw both of them in the championship game.  The 1st and 2nd Seeds battled with out, with the Mid Valley Warriors holding on to an 8-5 lead to win the championship

12-Under:
The So Cal Storm had a long road ahead of them on Sunday.  After winning their Quarterfinal game, they upset the 1st Seed from Pool A to face the 1st Seed from Pool B in the Championship game.  They had met Eaters BBC on Saturday, and despite giving them a run for their money, came up just short 3-2.  Facing them again, they fought hard, but were unable to wake their bats up as the Eaters barely escaped with a 1-0 win.

13-Under:
CV Crush took the unorthodox road to First Place.  Going into Sunday as the 4th Seed, they barely won their quarterfinal game, 5-4.  They were up against 1st Seed T2 Black in the semifinal game.   Tied 2-2, the game went into extra innings.  It wasn’t until the 11th Inning until the Crush’s bats woke up, and boy did they wake up.  Putting up 9 runs in the top of the 11th, they advanced to the Championship game with an 11-2 victory.

In the other Semi-Final game, the Chorizeros were facing the So Cal Redwings.  The two teams had squared off the night before in Saturday’s last game.  They game ended in a tie, and they continued the battle right into Sunday.  In another close game, the Chorizeros were able to squeeze out a 4-3 victory.
With a game break before the Championship game, the Crush and Chorizeros entered Sunday’s Championship well rested and fresh.  The Crush’s pitching was on point, giving up just 1 run in their 5-1 victory.

14-Under:
Giving up no runs on Saturday, the So Cal Outlaws entered Sunday as the 1st Seed and the heavy favorite.  They only gave up five runs in their two wins on Sunday to take home First Place.

Fountain Valley Sports Park:
9-Under:
Pacific Palisades Crush entered Sunday as the 4th Seed.  After not being able to have everything click on Saturday, they came into Sunday ready to play.  Their pitching was on point, giving up just 9 runs in three games, but their bats were even more impressive.  They scored 29 runs in their three game run to First Place.

10-Under:
Sunday’s 10-Under Playoff games were full of excitement, close plays, and more than a few moments that turned some coach’s hair gray.  In the Semifinal game, 1st Seed San Pedro Pirates were facing 4th Seed Stampede.  The Pirates were up 3-0 going into the 5th Inning.  Stampede put them within striking distance, scoring two runs in the top of the 5th.  In the top of the 6th Inning with two outs, Stampede had runners on 2nd and 3rd.  A ground ball to the left side saw all the runners moving.   A sharp throw to the plate, and a perfect block from the catcher resulted in the third out, and the Pirates heading to the Championship Game.

The US Stars came through the other half of the bracket as the 3rd Seed.  They cruised through their quarterfinal and semifinal games to get to the Championship game against the Pirates.  The Pirates struck first with a run in the bottom of the 1st Inning.  The Stars evened it up with one run in the top of the 3rd inning.  This would be the score until the top of the 6th Inning.  The US Stars were finally able to knock out the Pirates starting pitcher, and knock in two runs to take a 3-1 lead.  The Pirates weren’t able to match them in the bottom of the 6th Inning.  The US Stars, playing at their home fields, took home the first place trophy.

11-Under Red:
The 11-Under Red playoffs were nail-biting and exciting all the way through.  The Lunada Bay Berrics struggled on Saturday buy came back on Sunday to play some great games.  They won their quarter final game to face 1st Seed HB Vikings.  The Berrics took a 3-1 lead after the first inning.  They responded to a 4 run inning from the Vikings with 6 of their own to take a 9-5 lead.  The Vikings weren’t ready to give up though.  Chipping away with one run in the 4th, two in the 5th, and finally tying the game up with two outs in the bottom of the 6th, they sent the game to extra innings.   The Vikings held the Berrics, and scored one in the bottom of the 7th to head to the Championship.

The other semifinal game proved to be just as nail biting.  2nd Seed HB Bombers were facing 3rd Seed OC Hurricanes.  After two innings, OC Hurricanes were up 3-1.  The Bombers chipped back with one run in the 3rd, and one in the 4th, tying the game at 3-3.  In the top of the 5th inning, the Hurricanes scored the go ahead run, and were able to hold of the Bombers for a 4-3 win.

The Championship Game was a rematch of the final game on Saturday.  HB Vikings won over the OC Hurricanes 7-1, but that was not foreshadowing to the outcome of the Championship game.  The Hurricanes took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st.  The Vikings scored two in the 2nd, but the Hurricanes matched that in the bottom of the 2nd.  The bottom of the 4th inning provided the go ahead run for the Hurricanes.  Their starting pitcher threw six strong innings to close out the game, and the 3-2 victory for the Hurricanes.

11-Under Blue:
Second Seeds proved to be the victors in the 11-Under Blue Division.  The 2nd Seeds from Pool A and Pool B both upset the 1st Seeds from the opposite pools to advance to the Championship game.  HB Toros and Bat Rays met for the first time in the weekend in the Championship Game.  Tied 2-2 after three innings of hard play, the Bat Rays put up four runs in the Top of the 5th inning, taking them to a 6-2 win, and a First Place trophy.

12-Under Red:
The West LA Scorpions headed into Sunday with a 2-0 Record, and only three runs allowed on Saturday.  After a convincing semifinal win, they would face the FV Vulcans.  They handed the Vulcans their only loss on Saturday.  The Vulcans came back and fought hard, but the Scorpions scored a go ahead run in the 4th that would clinch the championship for them.

12-Under Blue:
BOLD Baseball was looking sharp on Saturday.  2-0 and just giving up one run, they entered Sunday as the 1st Seed.  They kept their undefeated streak alive, sweeping their playoff games to clinch First Place.
