Big League Dreams:
8-Under:
The So Cal Sharks played like just that on Sunday, a vicious Shark. Entering Sunday as the 3rd Seed, they quickly got payback on the 2nd Seed Riot who had beaten them on Saturday. Putting up 12 Runs, they left little doubt that they were a different team than on Saturday.
Now in the Championship game against 1st Seed Glendora Pride, a team that had only given up 5 runs in 3 games, the Sharks would have to pull out all the stops. Backed by a stellar pitching performance, the Sharks put up 14 more runs to cap off their hard hitting Sunday, and take home 1st Place.
9-Under:
The 9-Under playoff bracket was full of upsets and payback. First, the 5th Seed Irvine Knights upset the 4th Seed Premier, who beat the Knights on Saturday. Next, the Knights kept the payback coming with a big 13-5 upset over the 1st Seed (who also beat them on Saturday), to move to the Championship game.
In the other Semifinal game, the SFV Saints mercilessly upset the team that beat them on Saturday by putting up 20 runs to advance to the Championship.
The Knights, now on their 3rd game of the day, fell a little short to the newly energized SFV Saints. The Saints, with a game break, shut down the Knights bats, holding them to just 3 runs, giving them a chance to take the 7-3 lead, and the 1st Place trophy.
10-Under AA:
In the 10-Under AA, playoffs were split into Gold and Silver with Seeds 1-4 headed to the Gold Playoffs, and Seed 5-8 headed to the Silver bracket. The split happen to occur with four 2-0 teams headed to the Gold Playoffs, meaning the Champion of the tournament would not only be playing the best possible competition, but would have to remain undefeated on the weekend to take home 1st Place.
As the 4th Seed (and playing up to the 10-Under division), the 9-Under OC Crush in fact crushed the ball against the 1st Seed, who had only given up 5 total runs. Driving in 15, and giving up just 1 run, the OC Crush gave the older boys all they had, and advanced to the Championship.
Their underdog story would end their though, facing the 2nd Seed Irvine Knights. Giving up no runs against the 3rd Seed, the Knight's pitching shut down the Crush, giving up just 2 runs while their offense drove in 9, giving them the top spot for the weekend.
12-Under:
Baseball is a game of streaks. Some days, a team can do no wrong, while others, nothing seems to go your way. On Saturday, the Rays went 1-1, sneaking out a 6-3 wing, and giving up too many runs in a tough loss. Fast forward to Saturday, where despite entering as the 4th Seed, they were ready to play.
In their quarterfinal game, they put up 13 runs in 13-2 win to advance to the semifinals. Up against the team that scored 17 runs against them on Saturday, they held them to just 3 runs while putting up 11 of their own for the payback upset to advance to the Championship.
Not looking to slow down, they face the 2nd Seed Prospects, the only team in the bracket they hadn't played and beaten in the weekend. Looking to cap of the sweep of bracket, they scored 10 more runs, bringing their Sunday Runs Scored total up to 34 runs, and giving them the underdog Championship finish.
Thank you to all the teams that played in the Winter Classic. Here is a list of the Champions and Runner Ups.
See you on the fields
