MLK Classic - Central California

Since late last year, Central California Director Todd Hiskey has been giving USSSA Teams north of Los Angeles local, well run tournaments.  With over 50 teams signed up to play in the MLK Classic, teams had a local venue to play high quality, competitive baseball.

13-Under:
In the first game of the day, the Santa Barbara Riptide fell to the Conejo Rattlers in a tough 1-0 loss.  After battling in their second game, they advanced to the playoffs as the 4th Seed.

Needing to win three games against higher seeds, they rose to the challenge.  Winning their Quarterfinal game against the 3rd Seed 11-0, they advanced to the Semifinals against the undefeated 2nd Seed.  Out with a message to prove, the Riptide upset yet another team by putting up 14 runs, and advancing to the finals.

After upsetting two higher seeds, the Riptide found themselves up against the Conejo Rattlers for the Championship.  One team would be held to just 1 run again, but it wouldn't be the Riptide this time.  Scoring 7 runs, they upset the 1st Seed, got payback, and took home 1st Place.

14-Under:
The E3 Warriors had a rough time in Pool Play.  After going 0-2 into the Playoffs, they used the quarterfinals to find their footing, and push hard against the higher seeded teams.

Winning their quarterfinal game, they advanced to the Semifinals against the 1st Seed, who had only given up 1 run in the tournament thusfar.  In a total upset, the Warriors shut them out, while scoring 3 runs on of their own to advance to the finals.

Up against the Monarchs, the Warriors were ready for payback.  Scoring 9 runs this time around, they held the Monarchs to just 4, for the upset, payback, and 1st Place finish.

Thank you to all the teams that played in Central California.  We look forward to more tournaments with you guys through Todd.

See you on the fields
