The dust settled, the confetti cleaned up, the power is off intentionally, and another Super Bowl is behind us. But the Ravens and the 49ers weren't the only teams battling it out on Sunday for the Championship. Every year, a small number of teams participates in our Super Bowl Classic, for a quick tournament before the big game on Sunday afternoon. You get all the excitement of the big game, but without having to sit through a million awkward commercials and Jim Harbaugh's temper tantrums.
11-Under:
The Quakes had a rough day on Saturday. Going 0-2, they entered Sunday as the 4th Seed. Winning their quarterfinal game, they found themselves pitted against the 1st Seed, X Baseball. X Baseball had gone 2-0 on Saturday, including beating the Quakes. Things would be different this time though. The Quakes put up 15 runs in a semifinal upset to advance to the finals. Now on their third game of the day, the Quakes would have to face another undefeated team.
2nd Seed Sand Dawgs went 2-0 on Saturday. The beat the 3rd Seed in the Semifinals to advance to the Championship game. Not taking the Quakes for granted at all, they buckled down, and played great baseball. They put up 7 runs and held the tiring Quakes to just 4 runs, in what was a great Championship game for both teams.
12-Under Blue:
The 12-Under Blue, just like the Super Bowl, had a matchup between the top two teams in the Championship game. 1st Seed Sand Dawgs and 2nd Seed BWC gave up just 8 runs total in all six of their games leading up to the Championship game. You knew it would be a close game, and that's what we go.
The heavy hitting Sand Dawgs, who scored more than 8 Runs in all their games, were unable to crack the tight defense of BWC. BWC held them to just 4 runs and put up 7 of their own for a 7-4 victory, and took home the 1st Place trophy.
Thank you to all the teams that played on Super Bowl weekend. We know there's not shortage of stuff going on all weekend, so we thank you for playing USSSA Baseball. Here is a list of the Champions and Runner Ups.
See you on the fields
