The Halloween Haunt was a sea of pink all weekend long. Between pink Halloween Haunt Tournament Shirts, pink Baseball First shirts, pink trophies, pink award bats, pink uniforms, pink socks, pink umpires, and parents and family members in pink, it was a great weekend to help raise awareness and money for breast cancer research. USSSA Southern California donated over $3,000 from merchandise sales alone this weekend. Thank you to all the teams that participated, and everyone who purchased merchandise to help Strike Out Cancer.
Big League Dreams:
8-Under:
With only four teams in the division, the Championship Game was guaranteed to be a rematch of a previous game in the weekend. This game was between the Bat Hawks and the Bat Rays. On Saturday the teams battled hard, and the Bat Hawks came out on top. On Sunday however, the Bat Rays were looking to exact revenge. Both teams had scored 10 runs in their first games on Sunday, but the Bat Rays were able to keep their hot bats alive, scoring 13 runs in their Championship Upset.
12-Under Blue:
Riverside Toros and South Bay Surf were performing on similar levels all weekend. In their first match up, the Toros got the upper hand with a 4-2 victory. The Surf entered Sunday not guaranteed to enter the Championship game. Their Sunday game was against a fellow 1-1 team, the winner of which would advance to the championship game. Their pitchers were on point, shutting them out and advancing to face the only team that had handed them a loss. Fueled by revenge, they turned the tables on the Toros and came out on top with a 5-3 victory.
16-Under:
The 16-Under division not only had seven teams this weekend, but was very evenly matched. With five of the seven teams going 1-1 on Saturday, Sunday's playoffs were up for grabs for anyone. The So Cal Cavs entered Sunday as the 4th Seed. They won their Quarterfinal Game to advance to face the 1st Seed. Not holding back, they upset the 1st Seed with a shut out to advance to the finals. They would face 2nd Seed No Fear. Both teams were on their third game of the day, but that was not going to stop them from fighting hard against each other. The Cavs were able to keep their momentum alive, and came out with a 1st Place finish.

Fountain Valley Sports Park:
9-Under:
Four of the five teams in the 9-Under Gold Playoffs on Sunday entered at 2-0 after Saturday's games. The Championship was up for grabs to any team. South Bay Swarm entered as the 4th Seed. After winning their Quarterfinal Game, they faced 1st Seed HB Scrappers. They gave the Scrappers a run for their money, but the Scrappers were able to squeeze out a 5-4 win. In the other Semi-Final game, Blyleven's Animals and the So Cal Bearcats were locked in a fierce game. With the game tied 4-4 heading into extra innings, the Animals put up 9 runs to take a big lead and advance to the finals.
The Championship game coin flip for home team gave the 3rd Seed Animals home team advantage. They would need the bottom of the 6th inning for an exciting finish to the game. Down 7-5 heading into the bottom of the 6th, they scored three runs, giving them an exciting 8-7 victory.
11-Under:
Before the tournament even started, the Crew contacted us about getting pink Baseball First shirts for their entire team. They wanted to wear them under their cutoff jerseys all weekend. Looking sharp with their pink sleeves, they went 2-0 on Saturday. In a stroke of pure chance, they faced the same two teams they played on Saturday in Sunday's playoffs. Both teams played Crew hard on Saturday, and came up just short. The same thing was true for Sunday's games. Crew fought of the teams looking for revenge to advance to the Championship game.
On the other side of the bracket, 10-Under San Pedro Pirates were showing the 11-Under teams not to take the young guys for granted. Winning their Quarterfinal Game, they advanced to face 1st Seed Los Al Stampede. Surprising everyone, they upset the 1st Seed with a 6-4 victory. Headed to the Championship game, they were ready to battle in their third game of the day. Crew was ready for them though. A hard fought game saw Crew (and their pink sleeves), come out on top with a 6-4 victory.

Steed Park - San Clemente:
13-Under:
The BC Prospects had two teams playing in the 13-Under Tournament. After Saturday's games, one team advanced to the Gold Bracket, and the other team advanced to the Silver Bracket. The 7th Seed Prospects started off Sunday as the top seed in the Silver Bracket. With a 10-2 Semifinal Victory, they advanced to the finals against South Coast Tritons. Both teams battled, and the Prospects came out on top with a 2-1 win.
In the Gold Bracket, the other Prospects came in as the 3rd Seed. They won their Quarterfinal game 4-3, then scored 20 runs in their Semifinal victory, advancing to the Championship game. 5th Seed Long Beach Regulators upset the 4th Seed in their Quarter final game, and then upset the 1st Seed in their Semifinal game. With both the Prospects and Regulators on their third game of the day, both teams were understandably tired. The Prospects had a game break between their Semifinal game and the Finals. That breather did them wonders, as they shut out the Regulators, and completed the Gold/Silver sweep for the Prospect Program.
14-Under:
The 14-Under Championship had both the 1st and 2nd Seeds battling it out for the Championship Trophy. As the 2nd Seed the Tustin Knights had to win three games in order to clinch first place. They won both their Quarterfinal and Semifinal Games to advance to the finals. 1st Seed So Cal Eagles won their semifinal game and advanced to the finals as well. The Tustin Knights had a game break before the Championship game, and that time to recover helped them go on to a 5-4 Championship game victory.
Thank you to all the teams that played in San Clemente. Here is a list of the Champions and Runner Ups.
Thank you again to all the teams that played at all 6 parks this weekend, and making our Halloween Haunt an incredibly successful fundraiser to fight cancer.
