Thanksgiving NIT

The yearly Thanksgiving rain did it's best to avoid the parks over the Thanksgiving weekend, but the constantly changing forcast finally hit on Sunday afternoon, cancelling games at all parks, and moving playoffs games to a makeup weekend.  With most of the teams making it back for the final games, Elite World Series Berths were finally able to be claimed by the Championship teams.  Here's how the Major divisions panned out.

8-Under:
The Championship game saw the 1st Seed Faze and the 2nd Seed Total Baseball meeting up for the first time in the tournament.  Faze was borderline unstoppable through Pool Play.  Not giving up a single run and scoring 31 of their own in two games, they were a scary prospect for any team to face.  However entering Sunday, their bats cooled off considerably, giving Total Baseball a golden opportunity.

Rather than trying to outhit anybody, Total Baseball did what they had to win throughout the tournament.  They didn't knock the ball around the park, but they didn't let their opponents either.  With a 6-3 victory, they advanced to the Championship game.  Rather than changing their approach, they stuck with what they knew work, holding Faze to 6 runs, while scoring 7 of their own to take home the Championship Rings.

9-Under:
With the 9-Under Major playing on the field right next to the 9-Under AA, more than one concerned parent came to the directors table to make sure that they didn't have to play any of the teams from that field.  With some of the best 9-Under teams in the country vying for a berth to the Elite World Series, the quality of play was even a little vexing for the 12-Under teams playing next to them as well.

In their first matchup, the Cali Gamers let their bats do the talking against MVP.  Scoring 12 runs, the Gamers added another win to their undefeated stint in Pool Play.

Once in the Championship game, they took an early lead over MVP.  Then MVP was saved in the form of a heavy downpour.  All games got cancelled for the rest of the day, and had to be rescheduled weeks later.

Once the two teams got back on the diamond, MVP was ready for the Gamers, and in a turning of the tables, held the hot Gamers to just 4 runs.  The 11 runs that MVP scored was more than enough to give MVP the win over the 1st Seed.

10-Under:
With fourteen teams signed up to play, the 10-Under Major was one of two divisions to start on Friday night.  All Out Elite from Northern California went 1-1 during Pool Play, putting them as the 7th Seed going into playoffs.

After a convincing win against the 10th Seed, All Out Elite advanced to face the 2nd Seed.  Not looking for an early trip back to Northern California, they upset the 2nd Seed with a 9-4 victory.  0

Moving on to the semifinals on Sunday, they upset the 3rd seed with a 7-5 victory, moving them to the Championship game, and one step closer to a 1st Place victory.  Now up against the 1st Seed, All Out kicked it into another gear.  Jumping out to an early 8-0 lead, All Out upset the 1st Seed, took home the Championship Rings, and earned their berth to the Elite World Series before heading back to Northern California.

11-Under:
2nd Seed Easton Elite adhered to the notion that defense wins Championships.  In there five wins over the course of the weekend, they scored only 26 runs.  On the flipside, they only gave up a total of five runs, including two shutouts in the playoffs that led to their 1st Place finish.

12-Under:
1st Seed California Bandits had to change strategies come the makeup playoffs.  After swinging the bats hot in Pool Play, their playoffs got rained out and had to be made up in the makeup tournament.

Upon coming back to complete the playoffs.  Their bats were no where to be found.  Lucky for them, their defense had had time to rest and their pitchers came in fresh.  In a combined shutout between pitchers Sebastian Palos and Andrew Castaneda, they advanced to the Championship with a 1-0 victory.

Their opponents also advanced to the Championship with a 1-0 victory.  This lead to a very close game between the two squads.  The 1st Seed Bandits were able to gain the upper hand however, and took a 3-2 lead to a Championship victory.

13-Under:
RC Fire got the sweetest revenge in their playoff run.  After advancing as the 3rd Seed at 1-1, they quickly moved on to the quarter final, where they met with the team that handed them a tight 7-6 loss in Pool Play.

Turning the tables, the Fire scored 12 runs, moving them on to the Championship game against the 5th Seed.  The 5th Seed Bucs Baseball just came off a tough upset victory over the 1st Seed.  The Fire and Bucs found themselves in a hard fought championship game, with the RC Fire able to hold off the surging Bucs with a 4-3 Championship victory.

14-Under:
The GBG Renegades got off to a hot start in Pool Play, and never looked back.  Allowing only two runs in Pool Play, they moved onto the playoffs as the 1st Seed, and kept their hot streak alive, even after a few week break due to the rain out.

They gave up just 2 runs in the Semifinals and finished the Championship off with a 9-1 victory.

Thank you to all the teams that played in the Thanksgiving Super NIT.  Here are your Champions and Runner Ups.

See you on the fields
