Fool's Gold Recap

On a beautiful, breezy weekend, teams from all over Southern California (and even Nevada) met up in Huntington Beach to match up in a small, highly competitive tournament.  With the sun shining down, teams fought and battled to take home the Championship.

10-Under:
The 9-Under Easton Elite came into the weekend looking to prove that they could keep up with the older boys.  After a tough loss on Saturday, they needed to win their third and final Pool Play game on Sunday to advance to the Championship.  Up against their fellow Easton sponsored team, the Easton Canes, Easton Elite had no choice but to win.  Battling hard, the Elite came back and won 11-7 to force the two teams to meet up again in the Championship game.

The Elite had the momentum, the Canes had the motivation for payback.  This led to a fantastic Championship Game between the two teams.  The Elite kept it going, putting up a handful of runs quick.  The Canes responded with one of their own in the 2nd Inning.

With the score 6-1 Elite, the Canes had to make a push to keep the game from getting out of hand.  Now on their 3rd time through the lineup, the Canes woke their bats up, scoring 4 runs in the 4th Inning, making it a 6-5 game.   Elite responded in kind though, bringing in a new pitcher, and essentially shutting down the Cane's offensive attack.  The Elite held the Canes in their tracks, giving them back to back wins over the Canes, and sending them home with the 1st Place Trophy.

12-Under:
The 12-Under bracket saw teams from all over California and Nevada battling for the top spot.  After a tough loss to Cal Select, the VSP Force turned it around in the very next game, giving them a win and a 1-1 record heading into Sunday's playoffs.

In a fairly even bracket, the Force moved on as the 2nd Seed into Sunday, making them the home team in their first game.  Solid pitching shut down their opponents, giving them a 5-2 semifinal victory moving into the Championship game.

Now up against Cal Select, the Force would have to change their approach to overcome the team that had handed them their first loss.  Jumping on top early, the Force put the ball in the gaps, giving them a comfortable cushion for their pitchers to work with.  Holding the hard hitting Select to just 3 runs, the Force were able to put up 7 runs, giving them the 1st Place Hardware to take back to Santa Clarita.

Thanks to all the teams that drove from all over to play in the Fools Gold.  Here is a list of the Champions and Runner Ups for the weekend.

See you on the fields
