All Star Extravaganza / Independence Recap - July 2nd, 2013

It's All-Star seasons again.  That time of year where Travel Teams get put on hold, and teams take the chance to advance to either the Little League or PONY World Series.  The So Cal Rebels succeeded in doing this in 2011, winning the Little League World Series as Team West.

While All-Star teams are exciting, teams have a very short time to play together before the All-Star tournaments start.  The All Star Extravaganza give those teams an opportunity to play against other All-Star teams in a Travel Ball Tournament environment before they advance to their respective All-Star Playoffs.

Big League Dreams
8-Under:
The 8-Under Playoffs were split into Gold, Silver, and Bronze, leaving the Gold Bracket full of 2-0 teams.  Los Alamitos has always had one of the strongest PONY Programs in Southern California.  Giving up just 1 run on Saturday, they were only beat out in Runs Allowed by the 1st Seed So Cal Outlaws, who gave up no runs on Saturday.

It was no surprise that Los Alamitos A and the So Cal Outlaws found themselves in the Championship game on Sunday.  Both team's pitching was a little tired from Saturday's games.  With only four teams advancing to the Gold Bracket, teams had to throw their best arms to help them move onto the Gold Bracket.   Their pitching may have been exhausted, but their bats and defense were sharp as ever.  Both teams advanced to the Championship game, short on pitching, and feeling the effects of the heat.  Los Alamitos were able to jump on the tired Outlaws, putting up 10 runs before shutting them down and holding them to 6 runs.

10-Under Red:
With just a two run difference between the 6th and 7th Seeds, Los Alamitos snuck into the Gold Bracket by the skin of their teeth.  Not looking to waste their opportunity in the Gold Bracket, they quickly jumped on the 3rd Seed, putting up 16 runs and advancing to the quarter finals.  Now facing the 2nd Seed in the Semifinal game, they had their work cut out for them.  They played solid defense and were able to take home a 6-5 nail biting win and advance to the Championship game.  Now on their third game of the day, they showed zero signs of slowing down against the 1st Seed.  Knocking in 9 more runs, they held the 1st Seed to just 5 runs, and took home a hard earned 1st Place Trophy

10-Under Blue:
Whittier Navy advanced to the gold bracket by giving up one less run than the 5th Seed.  They truly belonged in the gold bracket, because despite being the 4th Seed, they scored 12 runs in their Semifinal game against the 1st Seed to advance to the Championship.  Having scored 48 runs through their first three games of the weekend, they kept swinging the bats, outscoring the 3rd Seed 16-1 in the Championship game, they clinched 1st Place in a convincing fashion.

12-Under:
The 12-Under Whittier PONY also set out to show how good of hitters they really are.  They advanced to Sunday as the 2nd Seed, meaning they would have to win 3 games in order to win the tournament.  Not only was this not a problem, they scored an obscene number of runs in the process.  Outscoring their opponents 41-7 on Sunday, Whittier PONY solidified their front runner status in upcoming All-Star tournaments.

Thank you to all the teams that played in the All-Star Extravaganza / Independence tournament.  Best of luck in your upcoming All-Star Tournaments.  Here is a list of the Champions and Runner-Ups.

See you on the fields
