Father's Day Recap - June 20th, 2013

There are few places that a baseball dad would rather be on a Father's Day Weekend than out at the fields.  Watching his child instinctively utilize all the skills that they've spent years working on in the garage, the backyard, under the street lights, and on the baseball field.  Thank you to dads all for the Batting Practice, the thousands of ground balls and pop flys, and the hours of bullpen work.  It wouldn't be the same without you.

7-Under:
If there's anything we've learned, it's that anything can happen in the 7-Under division.  4th Seed Cal Select won their Quarterfinal game before advancing to the Semifinals to face the 1st Seed.  Cal Select had lost to them 9-4 on Saturday, but turned it completely around and scored 12 runs for the Semifinal upset.  Seemingly unstoppable, the advanced to the finals to play the SA Bears, another team that had beaten them on Saturday.

Despite Cal Select scoring 12 more runs, the SA Bears were swinging the bats equally as well.  They outscored the Select by one run, putting up 13 runs in an exciting finals game.

11-Under:
With four of the six teams headed to the Gold Bracket on Sunday having 2-0 records, the Playoffs were up for grabs for anyone.  Pure Baseball Titans from Las Vegas entered Sunday as the 4th Seed, going 2-0, but giving up the most runs, they were the lowest seeded 2-0 team.  They had no problem with that though.  That just meant they saved all their pitching for Sunday.  Winning their Quarterfinal game, they advanced to face the 1st Seed.  Putting up a whopping 14 runs and giving up just three, they easily advanced to the finals to play the 2nd Seed.  Still having pitching to spare, they gave up just 1 run in the finals, winning by a score of 6-1, and heading back to Vegas with some 1st Place Trophies.

12-Under:
The So Cal Stars Black were doing whatever they had to do to sneak out wins over the weekend (and I'm sure caused a couple of panic attacks in the crowd too).  Going 1-0-1 on Saturday, they entered Sunday with a total run differential of +1.  Their first game was against the Metro Trojans, the team that they tied on Saturday.  Keeping this close, these evenly matched teams had another close game, with the Star winning 4-3.

Headed into the Semifinal game against the 1st Seed, the Stars wouldn't be able to give them much breathing room.  Both teams hit the ball all over the field, but in the end, the Stars came out on top again by 1 run, winning 11-10.

Now on their third game of the day in the finals, they were looking for a little more cushion than just a one run lead.  Alas, hold habits die hard as they won their Championship game 6-5 for their fourth 1-Run victory of the weekend, and the 1st Place spot.

Thank you to all the teams that played in the Father's Day Classic, and would like to wish all the Father's another Happy Father's Day.  Here is a list of the Champions and Runner-Ups.

See you on the fields
