The second weekend of the State Championship saw the 9U, 11U, and 13U come back to fight for 1st Place in the always tough State Championships. With teams from all over California competing, there would be no free rides for any teams through the tournament. Every victory would be earned and well deserved.
11-Under Major:
Quite possibly the best display of dominance in the weekend was the LA Clash. Undefeated heading into the final game, Clash pitchers Noah Blythe, Izzy Martinez, Hopper Rowe and George Cooper stood out, throwing 18 combined innings of baseball, allowing just 1 earned run. The Clash had outscored opponents 23-8 in four games headed to the Championship.
Now facing their toughest opponent, Diego Baquiero got the ball on the hill. Not fazed by the pressure, Diego threw a complete game shut out, while helping himself out at the plate. Going a perfect 3-3 at the plate, Diego was a one man wrecking crew, leading the Clash to their second 1st Place finish of the season.
13-Under Major:
The most evenly matched division of the tournament was the 13-Under Major. With some of the best teams in the country vying for 1st Place, games were evenly matched across the board, with just a few runs deciding the outcomes of most of the games.
The SY Titans never blew out any opponents. What they did do was what they needed to win. Five was their lucky number in their first three games. Scoring five runs in each game, stellar pitching and solid defense kept their highly ranked opponents to just a few runs in each game. Winning their semifinal game, they advanced to the Championship game against the always tough Diamond MVP.
Sticking with their game plan, they help Diamond MVP to just 2 runs while scoring 6 of their own, giving them their fifth win of the weekend, and clinching them the 1st Place spot.
Thank you to all the teams that played in the both weekends of the State Championships. Here is list of the Champions and Runner Ups.
See you on the fields
