Premier Weekly Recap

A rogue rain cloud hit Southern California Friday night.  Despite dropping more rain than one would want on the night before the tournament, the dry fields took the water easily.  With some slight delays and hard work from the field crews, the fields were up and running.

Long Beach:
We made our first visit of the year to the beautiful El Dorado park in Long Beach, hope of the Los Altos Baseball Program.  With two grass infields, and two all dirt fields, teams were able to play on fields with proper distance fences, giving them exciting games, gappers off the wall, and close plays all around

9-Under:
In their first matchup in the tournament, the Yard Dogs and IHN Warriors had the closest game of Pool Play in the 9-Under Division.  The Yard Dogs came out on top in their first meeting with a well played 3-1 victory.

This lead to the two teams making their way to the final game against each other for another close showdown.  The Yard Dogs took the early 2-0 lead, and didn't need much more than that. Behind stellar pitching performances from Isaac Boschini and Jackson Berry, the Yard Dogs shut out the hard hitting Warriors, to take home their first 1st Place finish on the season after four 2nd Place finishes.

10-Under:
After giving up only run in their first two games, the 2-0 Menace BBC faced the fellow 2-0 Los Al Rampage in their final game of Pool Play.  The two undefeated teams had as close a game as you'd imagine.  The Los Al Rampage snuck out with a 6-5 victory to give them the Home Team Advantage in the Championship game.

Now in the Championship game, Menace took an early 3-1 lead over the Rampage.  The Rampage answered back the next inning, putting up 4 runs, and taking a 5-3 lead.  After getting an insurance run, the Rampage took a 6-3 lead into the 6th Inning.  Now on their last three outs of the game, the Menace needed just 3 runs to keep the game alive.  After a game of being quiet at the plate, they finally woke up, and put up 8 runs to take a commanding 11-6 lead.  The Rampage were unable to respond in kind, giving the Menace the come behind, upset victory, and a 1st Place finish in their first tournament of the season.

11-Under:
The first game of the weekend saw a matchup of what would be the final game of the tournament.  The Menace and LA Xtreme met bright and early in a game that would see the Menace take home a 9-3 win, and lead to them clinching the 1st Seed headed in to Sunday.  The Xtreme won their next game giving them 3rd Seed headed into the playoffs.

Up against the 2-0 Pounders, the Xtreme were ready to play, putting up 11 runs against a team that had only given up 8 in their first two games.  Now in the Championship Game, the Xtreme were looking to keep their hot bats rolling against the undefeated Menace.  After 3 Innings of play, the game was all tied up at 4 runs a piece.  After a scoreless 4th, the Xtreme were able to capitalize, and score a run to take a 5-4 lead.  Xtreme relief pitcher Michael Mulligan continued his scoreless dominance and held the hard hitting Menance, giving the Xtreme an upset victory, retribution for the 1st Game of the tournament, and their second 1st Place finish in a row.

12-Under:
Redondo Samurai pitcher Jordan Guevara proved his resolve in the final game of the tournament.  After giving up four runs in the top of the 3rd Inning, his team helped him bounce back by scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd, keeping the Samurai in the game.  Jordan buckled down, and held the Triple Play scoreless for the rest of the game.  The Samurai bounced back in the bottom of the 4th, putting up four more runs, and taking a 7-4 lead.  The Samurai were finally able to clinch a first place finish behind Jordan's dominating pitching performance.

Thank you to all the teams that played in the Premier.  Here is a list of the Champions and Runner Ups.
