Heritage Weekly Recap - April 15, 2014

Big League Dreams Perris
9-Under:
Cruising through the tournament, NLA Baseball were expecting an easy run to 1st Place.  After winning their semifinal game easily, they found themselves up against the Bakersfield Bullets.

After a long drive from Bakersfield, the Bullets weren't keen on leaving after just one game on Sunday.  After getting revenge on the team that beat them on Saturday, they took an early lead against the 1st Seed NLA Baseball.  The two teams went run for run through the entire game, until it was 11-9 in the Bottom of the 6th.

The Bullets had a tenuous grasp on the lead as both teams were exhausted in the 4th games of the weekend.  NLA Baseball, started chipping away with little hits, until they had runners in scoring position.  NLA Baseball clutched up and were finally able to get on top of the Bullets.  Scoring 3 Runs, NLA Baseball were able to keep their perfect weekend alive, and take home their second 1st Place finish in a row.

10-Under:
With two 2-0 teams headed to the Championship game, it was a safe bet that it would be a nail biter to the very end.

With both Cal Select and the So Cal Thunder on their fourth game of the weekend, both scored runs early.  After the game was tied 4-4 in the 4th Inning, pitchers began to settle down, and the game stayed tied through the 6th Inning.

As the game entered the 7th Inning, the visiting Thunder scored 1 run to go up 5-4.  With the pitching being as solid as it was, this should have been enough to seal a victory.  The Select however, were not about to give up their undefeated weekend.  Buckling down, the Select woke up their bats that put them as the 1st Seed all weekend.  Getting their first runners on, they found the holes, and scored two runs when it mattered most, giving them a 6-5 victory and their first 1st Place finish of the 2014 Season.

11-Under:
The Championship game was the second match up of the weekend for the Dirt Dawgs and the San Diego Longhorns.  Their first meeting was the last game of Pool Play on Saturday.  This game ended in a 4-4 tie.  It was only fitting that these teams would meet again, this time in the last game on Sunday.

The Dirt Dawgs would first have to get past the Menifee Nationals.  While the Dirt Dawgs did beat them on Saturday, it was 4-3 game that could have easily gone the other way.  The Dirt Dawgs didn't escape the game unscathed.  In another nail biter, the Dirt Dawgs held on to a one run victory to advance to the Championship.

Now facing the 1st Seed San Diego Longhorns, the Dirt Dawgs got to work, taking the early lead.  They held on to the lead through the game, but heading into the 6th Inning, it was looking like it would be another close game.  The Dirt Dawgs had a 6-5 lead in the top of the 6th, and were looking to do something they weren't able to do all weekend.  They would have been happy with an insurance run or two, but their offense was able to string together some clutch hits, giving them a comfortable 11-5 lead.

Now with some breathing room, the Dirt Dawgs defense went to work.  They gave up one run, but were able to hold their evenly matched opponent there, giving the Dirt Dawgs their second 1st Place finish of the Season.

Thank you to all the teams that played in the 2014 Heritage.  Here is a list of the Champions and Runner Ups.

See you on the fields
