Columbus Day Classic Recap - October 20th

The Columbus Day Classic saw our return to Long Beach for the second time this year.  The Los Altos staff take care of their fields as good as any place you'll play.  It's a fun park to play at, and we look forward to our tournaments there every year.  Thank you to the Los Altos crew for making the weekend possible, and fantastic.

9-Under:
The So Cal Shockers hit the ground running after a 2nd Place finish in the 8-Under World Series.  They've played three tournaments so far this season, and have taken 1st Place in two of the three (and got 1st Place in the Silver Bracket in the third tournament).  They've won their last 10 games in tournament play over three tournaments.  They can give up runs some games, but they have bats that rival those of the best, scoring 96 runs so far this season.  In the Columbus Day Classic, they went 4-0, scoring 34 runs in their undefeated run to 1st Place.

12-Under:
The Crew was the sleeper pick in the 12-Under Gold Bracket.  Going 1-1 on Saturday, they lost a tough game to the eventual 2nd Seed in the Gold Bracket.  So when they entered playoffs as the 4th Seed, their opponents underestimated them.  After winning their Quartfinal game, they faced the 1st Seed Wolves in the Semifinal.  The Wolves scored a whopping 41 runs on Saturday and gave up just 1 heading into Sunday's Playoffs.  The Crew caught them off guard though, and limited the potent Wolves offense to just 2 runs, taking a 5-2 win to the Championship game.

On a roll now, there was no stopping them in the Championship game.  A 10-0 Victory sealed the deal as they took home the 1st Place Trophy.

13-Under:
Payback is always the sweetest feeling, especially when it matters most.  So Cal Vicious lost 11-2 on Saturday to the eventual 1st Seed in the Gold Bracket.  Vicious moved on as the 4th Seed, meaning they would have to beat the 1st Seed in order to advance to the finals.  Not backing down the from the challenge, they dug in their cleats, and held the hard hitting 1st Seed to just 4 runs while scoring 8 of their own to move onto the Championship.  Once in the Championship with their blood flowing and emotions high, they scored 11 more runs, taking home the underdog victory, and the 1st Place trophy.

Thank you to all the teams that played in the Columbus Day Classic.  Here is a list of the Champions and Runner-Ups.

See you on the fields
