Columbus Day Classic
Recap
9-Under – Fountain Valley
Sports Park:
Scoring runs is the name of the game in 9-Under. SGV Hustle scored a whopping 65 runs over the
course of the weekend. Giving up just 16
runs in four games, they were able to clinch 1st Place for the weekend.
10-Under – Fountain Valley
Sports Park/El Dorado Park, Long Beach:
The 10-Under Tournament took teams between Fountain Valley
Sports Park and El Dorado Park in Long Beach.
The Gold Bracket made its way back to Fountain Valley for the playoffs
on Sunday. The Tritons got revenge from
Saturday’s matchup with the Kings. An
8-5 victory put them in the finals against 1st Seed Rampage. Rampage advanced to the finals with a 5-0
semifinal victory. They kept that energy
alive with a Championship win to take home first place.
11-Under Red – El
Dorado Park, Long Beach:
Baseball West Coast
started off strong on Saturday, and kept the momentum alive on Sunday. Outscoring their opponents 23-3 on Sunday,
they took home the 1st Place trophy.
11-Under White – Fountain
Valley Sports Park:
The OC Bulldogs took the long road to their 1st Place
trophy. Going 1-1 on Saturday, they
entered Sunday as the 2nd Seed from Pool A.
After winning their quarterfinal game, they faced the SC Tritons, the
1st Seed from Pool B. They won that
game to advance to the Championship Game to face the BC Prospects, they only
team to beat them so far. A hard fought
game, and the Bulldogs completed their long Sunday with a 4-1 Championship
victory.
11-Under Blue – Big League
Dreams West Covina:
The ISC Nationals took the exact same path that the OC
Bulldogs took on Sunday. After winning
their quarterfinal game, and upsetting the 1st Seed from Pool B, they found
themselves pitted against the SO Cal Titans.
The Titans had won a close one on Saturday, but the Nationals weren’t
going to let that happen again. Their
bats were alive as they put up 12 runs in their Championship Victory.
12-Under Red – El Dorado
Park, Long Beach:
Extra Innings were needed to get a winner of the 12-Under
Red Division on Sunday. Stampede scored
one run in the top of the 1st, and the scored remained 1-0 until the bottom of
the 6th Inning. The Prospects led the inning off with a
triple, followed by a single to tie the game 1-1. Stampede scored another run in the 8th
inning, but the Prospects immediately matched that with a tying run of their own
to make it 2-2. The Stampede were able
to string some hits together in the top of the 10th, putting up 5 runs and
putting the game out of reach for the Prospects. Both teams played incredibly hard, but Stampede
walked away with the 1st Place trophy.
12-Under White –
Fountain Valley Sports Park:
The 12-Under White ended in an exciting fashion on Sunday night
as well. The 1st Seeds from both Pools A
and B were meeting under the lights to determine a winner. OC Hitmen and South Bay Surf were neck and
neck, going into the bottom of the last inning 7-7. With one runner on, the pitch came in to
Number 5, who drove the ball deep over the left field fence for a walk off
2-Run Home Run. As they dog piled him at
home plate, it would truly be a championship he would not forget.
12-Under Blue – Big League
Dreams West Covina:
BPA Demarini was dialed in all weekend at Big League Dreams
West Covina. Knocking in 33 runs, and
giving up only 7, they swung their way all the way to 1st Place on Sunday.
13-Under Red – Big League
Dreams West Covina:
Corona Kaos and T2 Black were both 2-0 on Saturday and both
gave up only 4 runs. The only stat
differentiating the two was their run differential. It’s no surprise that the two teams would
face off against each other in the Championship Game. Both teams came ready to hit, with Kaos
coming out on top 10-7.
13-Under Blue – Big League
Dreams West Covina:
The Semifinal game in the 13-Under Blue saw friends battling
friends. The BCBA Prospects played
against their training mates BC Prospects T.
It was a hard battle, but 1st Seed BCBA Prospects squeezed out a 4-2
victory to advance to the finals, where they would face 3rd Seed Desert Knights. The Prospects found their groove, and took
home a 9-1 win and 1st Place trophy.
14-Under – Big League
Dreams West Covina:
The So Cal Bombers took the long road on Sunday, and didn’t
give up a single run in doing so. After
winning their quarter final game 2-0, they got payback on THZ for Saturday’s
loss by shutting them out and advancing to the Championship game. Now on their third game of the day, and
having been at the park for over 8 hours, their bats started to get tired. That wasn’t a problem though thanks to their
stellar pitching. They shut out Khaos
1-0 to win the Championship, and complete a long and difficult Sunday run.
Thank you to all the teams that played in the Columbus Day
Classic. Here is a list of the Champions
and Runner Ups.
